Yahoo Brings LiveText Real-Time Video Texting App To India
The app defines a new way to stay connected by combing video and text while removing audio from the equation.
Yahoo has finally brought in its LiveText app to India which had debuted in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
In contrast to WhatsApp, SnapChat or Facebook Messenger, LiveText will allows users to send live video messages, however, without any audio being transmitted. The key feature is that the audio will be replaced by the traditional form of text messages.
In a recent Yahoo blog post, Arjun Sethi, Senior Director, Product Management noted that with this LiveText video messaging app, users can now easily stay in touch no matter where they are or what language they speak.
While this video messaging without an audio feed sounds unique, it definitely is an entirely new way to stay in touch. There is no need to worry about how better can we express through texts alone. While smileys and emoticons have long helped users to better express themselves, a live video feed complementing the text would definitely make no harm. Instead, there lies the USP of this app.
However, Yahoo claims that Livetext is not an alternative to a smartphone’s built-in mobile apps. The app is instead a solution to go back to the basics by putting your words and your friend's real-time reactions at the centre of your interaction.
The free app uses either a WiFi or cellular connection and is focused on one-on-one messaging, not group chats.
