Vodafone Plans To Launch 4G Services By This Year End

The company has also announced 'double data' offer on 3G just as its competitor Airtel launched 4G in Mumbai.

Nearly two months after Airtel introduced its 4G network connectivity in Delhi NCR, Vodafone is all set to launch its 4G services by the end of this year.

It is worth noting that Vodafone which is the country's second largest mobile operator by revenue as well as subscribers, won about 5 MHz spectrum in the 1,800 MHz band in five circles - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Karnataka and Kerala during the February spectrum auctions. Now, the company is said to be conducting trials of its 4G services in these circles.

Along with the introduction of the 4G services by the company, it is expected to rise demand for high speed data.

It is also worth noting that Airtel recently launched 4G services in 296 towns across the country.

Also, to strategically position themselves against the likes of Airtel and the much expected Reliance Jio, Vodafone has also announced that all 3G data packs in Mumbai will now offer double the data than previously which means that users will have  to pay half of the actual cost of 3G data. To recall, back in June this year, Vodafone had doubled the mobile data charges for 2G and 3G subscribers.

Vodafone, Airtel and Reliance Jio are all expected to cater to this demand via their 4G network. While Airtel has already launched its 4G service in Mumbai, the other two are expected to do so in the next five months.

If you didn't know, Reliance Jio Infocomm which holds the pan India 4G license, is expected to come up with its 4G offer by this year end while Idea Cellular is likely to launch 4G services in select locations next year.
