Ex-BlackBerry MD Sunil Lalvani Jumps Ship To Qualcomm
Appointed at a time when the company’s sales are dipping.
Sunil Lalvani, Former BlackBerry MD has now jumped ship to Qualcomm. He comes with 20 years of experience and has joined Qualcomm as the president of its India operations.
In those 20 years Sunil Lalvani has acquired a lot after being a part of BlackBerry, EMC Corp., Nokia and even Cisco to name a few.
Still then, Avneesh Agrawal who Sunil replaces, seems to have slipped off at the right time even though he has done the same to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions.
Qualcomm is currently in the midst of a restructuring. The company has lost some big customers lately, all thanks to one problematic chipset, the Snapdragon 810. Luckily for Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 808 was available for manufacturers to fall back on, but its not quite the replacement for the hot-headed octa-core chipset that seems to be plagued with thermal issues.
Indeed, the Snapdragon 810 costed Samsung (partially) and HTC, as both have shifted to in-house or alternative chipmakers (MediaTek).

The company had announced last week that it would eliminate about 1.4 billion USD in spending and cut about 15% of its global workforce to make up for lost sales.
Hopefully, the Snapdragon 820 that is expected by the end of the year, sees manufacturers flocking back. This is because fingerprint readers are going to be a big thing with Android M.
Google’s next software update will open up a world of opportunities by offering APIs for fingerprint readers and Qualcomm with its ultrasound Sense ID technology, has the perfect solution for that.
