Twitter Takes Five Spammers To Court

Service files suit against multiple websites in a US court to shut them down.

 

Are you annoyed at all the unwanted spam tweets that come up on your Twitter stream? Then you have a reason to rejoice. The microblogging site has finally taken a stand against five websites that have been heavily spamming its users. In a suit filed at a federal court in San Francisco, sources reveal that the defendants include TweetAttacks, TweetAdder, TweetBuddy, James Lucero of justinlover.info and Garland E Harris of troption.com.

Twitter's official blog further states, "With this suit, we’re going straight to the source. By shutting down tool providers, we will prevent other spammers from having these services at their disposal.

 Further, we hope the suit acts as a deterrent to other spammers, demonstrating the strength of our commitment to keep them off Twitter".

Other new anti-spam measures that the microblogging service has in place include aggressively suspending the @ spam mentions, along with a link shortener (t.co), which will check if a tweeted link leads to malicious content. Users have also been advised and encouraged to report and block any spammers that they come across. Let's just hope that with these measures in place, netizens on Twitter are better protected.
