Microsoft Plans To Bring Surface 2-in-1s To India
Microsoft may have to re-work on the pricing strategy to compete with budget 2-in-1s from Micromax, iBall and Notion Ink.
While Microsoft announces New Delhi to be in the list of cities to host the launch of Windows 10 globally, the company has also revealed about its plan to bring its much acclaimed Surface 2-in-1 devices to the Indian market.
This definitely looks like good news for enthusiasts who have been long waiting for Microsoft to bring Surface to India. But, the bad news is that it won't come cheap.
Apparently, the pricing was the main factor which stopped Microsoft from launching Surface in India in the first place.
However, it seems that the company is now confident on the market and the pricing strategy for all devices including high-end convertibles.
Speaking about the 2-in-1 devices, we feel that Surface is the perfect device to experience the much awaited Windows 10 operating system which is said to adopt to 2-in-1s easily with seamless switching between PC and tablet UIs.
Microsoft's Surface tablets are placed in the premium segment and are considered very much as a laptop replacement for people who are on the move.
The 12 inch Surface Pro 3 prices start as $799 (Rs 51,000 approximately) while the relatively cheaper 10.8 inch Surface 3 prices start at $499 (Rs 32,000 approximately).
Both the tablets come without the Type cover, which costs an additional $130 or Rs 8,240 approximately.
However, nowadays, we have been witnessing how low-cost 2-in-1s from companies like Micromax, iBall and Notion Ink are flooding the Indian market. This indeed sparks a curiosity to see if Microsoft will be able to position the Surface to compete with these devices and high-end tablets like the Apple iPad Air 2 or keep it as a high-end niche device.
If we ask us, we feel that Microsoft may have to re-work on the pricing strategy to compete with budget 2-in-1s from Micromax, iBall and Notion Ink.
