Microsoft Has 6 New Windows Smartphones, Which You May Never Buy

This is completely opposed to what CEO, Satya Nadella put down in a letter last week.

 

Microsoft’s smartphone business is certainly not shutting down. Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella’s letter told us that the company will focus on three areas going forward, business, value for money and flagship devices.

So it isn’t strange when a famed leaker (who has leaked out credible stuff in the past) tells us that Microsoft already has 6 devices lined up for the current year.

Clearly, someone is going wrong somewhere. On one hand, we have a direct letter from the CEO of Microsoft, which states that the company plans to throttle down on its smartphone business and now we hear that Microsoft already has plenty of devices.

CMR data also points to Microsoft being a competitor to Samsung and Micromax in the overall mobile phone sales category in India. But the same data also points to Microsoft being nowhere near the top when it comes to smartphone sales in India.

Indeed, some of these  6 devices may not even end up seeing a release. This makes sense, as handsets like the Lumia 940 and 940 XL may have clearly been designed long before the news about Microsoft’s defeat in the smartphone business became official.

Still then, Windows Phone fans will be more than eager to see a few upgrades headed their way.

Microsoft’s focus on delivering mid and budget devices during the past year, seems to have killed it for them in the flagship segment; an area which they plan to cover this year.

Hopefully things are not too late and Windows 10 with its ecosystem, proves to be a reason for fans to get excited about.

Even then, Microsoft is really not interested in building its smartphone portfolio; but is now focussed on convincing others to do the same to build its ecosystem, to run its software on. And even this is a problem because no one is interested. This is more so, after Microsoft decided to build devices itself using Nokia’s mobile division.

Think about it. Why would anyone buy an HTC-made One M8 for Windows just for a 4 MP UltraPixel camera, when the same (apps, games etc.) can be achieved with the mid-range Nokia Lumia 830. Microsoft seems to be stuck in a viscous circle that the company itself helped create.
