Apps On iOS App Store Gets Cheaper In India

The cheapest app is no more priced Rs 60, but Rs 10 from now.

It looks like a good news for Apple users as the company introduces two new pricing tiers for certain countries like India, Russia, Mexico, Indonesia, South Africa and Turkey.

Accordingly, Alternate Tier A allows developers to price their apps and in app purchases as low as Rs 10 while the second pricing tier known as Alternate Tier B allows to price their apps below Rs 30.

This new announcement was made through an official email to the developers as per a report by 9to5mac.com.

Going in-depth in to the price change, it is worth noting that the prices have been periodically revised depending upon the exchange rate.

We can recall at this moment that last year during March and April, the company had hiked the prices of the apps in the iOS App Store, especially in countries like India, Australia, Indonesia and South Africa due to the changes in the foreign exchange rates.

However, coming back to the newly introduced price tiers, it seems that the company might be trying to increase the uptake of the paid apps in India where Rs 60 for an app is still considered expensive.

Also, here are a few screenshots which show some apps being priced at Rs 10.

Until now, the prices in App Store were based on a fixed exchange rate (local currency equivalent of the USD price) which means that a $0.99 for an app in the US App Store was being priced at Rs 60 in India.

However, now with the latest revision of price tiers, a $0.99 app is likely to be available in India for Rs 10 which seems cheaper to the Indian users.
