Detailed Specs Of The Xiaomi Mi 5 And Mi 5 Plus Leak Out
The Plus version may lead to the culling of the Note series.
Now that most of the flagships for this year are out (excluding the OnePlus 2) it seems like Xiaomi is now the focus, as the company has yet to unveil something exciting for the current year (apart from the Mi Note Pro).
Both the Mi 5 and the Mi 5 Plus have been hot in the rumour mill for long. While the Mi 4 was a great flagship, it is beginning to age even when you compare it to Meizu’s flagship devices, which come packed with features.
Today, there is finally a bit of confirmation regarding the hardware specifications of the device. With the Xiaomi Mi 5:
- We can expect a 5.2 inch QHD LCD display with Gorilla Glass 4 and 2.5D edges
- A Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 inside
- A 16 MP camera on the back and a sizeable 13 MP shooter for selfies
- It is expected to pack in a 3000 mAh battery and will run Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box
As for the pricing, you can expect it to retail for CNY 2,399 that is approximately Rs 24,533.
Coming to its bigger sibling the Mi 5 Plus, it is certainly going to be a beast of a smartphone.
- Expect it to sport a 5.7 inch Quad HD display
- A Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 inside (this falls in line with an earlier leaked product roadmap)
- A 23 MP primary camera with OIS and laser assisted autofocus and a 12 MP unit on the front
- The battery capacity will be upped to 3500 mAh, one that is expected to quick charge from 0-100% in just 50 minutes
If you read the specs of Mi 5 Plus, you would have noted that it could pose a threat to the Mi Note (even the Pro for that matter). Clearly, its Xiaomi’s availability cycle that will save it this time around, as the company has yet to launch its Mi Note and Mi Note Pro post the grand announcement in markets apart from China.
As for availability of the Mi 5 Plus, the Snapdragon 820 chipsets have not hit production just yet. Xiaomi will show off a few demo units with sample chips inside at its November announcement. So we could hopefully expect the Mi 5 Plus to show up by Q3 in India next year.
This is considering that the Mi Note was just launched in China in May after being announced in February and is expected to reach Indian shores by December.
