Microsoft’s Upcoming Flagship Rumoured To Sport An Iris Scanner

Windows 10’s Hello will clearly take advantage of this.

Microsoft today is making a lot of headlines related to its soon to be launched Windows 10 operating system that will work across smartphones, tablets and desktops. This news is so big, that it  seems to have sidelined the news of Microsoft’s upcoming flagship smartphones (codenamed Talkman and Cityman), which pop up in the rumour mill from time to time.

Today, news about the Lumia 940 XL comes from none other than famous leaker, @evleaks who has so far had a pretty credible history of leaks.

The Microsoft Cityman a.k.a the Lumia 940 XL according to the leaker has apparently skipped on a fingerprint scanner. Microsoft will be using a Iris scanner for security instead, which is welcomed news; more so because of Windows 10’s Hello feature.

The Hello security feature allows users to sign into their devices using just biometric security. This could include your face, iris, or fingerprint for gaining access to your desktop or smartphone, the data of which will securely be stored on your device.

With this already built-in with Windows 10, it is indeed not surprising that Microsoft decided to go in for an iris scanner for its upcoming flagship, more so because fingerprint scanning now seems to be too mainstream.

Post that we have another update, (in a reply to another post) which mentions that the flagship smartphones will come in plastic and will continue the tradition of the unusually abnormal hump on the back (similar to the Lumia 1020).
