MediaTek-Powered HTC Desire 820s Out In India

Pricing could have been a lot better.

HTC is indeed not done with Desire 820 range just yet. The company has just announced its latest smartphone in the Desire range called the Desire 820s.

In short the smartphone is pretty much, similar to the Desire 820q minus that Qualcomm chipset.

Yes HTC has announced yet another variant of the Desire 820 and this one comes with MediaTek innards.

While HTC refused to clarify which chipset it was including in the 820s, we can safely say that its affair with MediaTek is just beginning.

The smartphone looks exactly like the Desire 820, but comes with specs that are similar to the Desire 820q except for the Qualcomm chipset inside:

  • We get a 5.5 inch 720 p display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection
  • Inside we have a 1.7 GHz, octa-core, MediaTek SoC coupled with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of  internal storage (expandable via micro SD)
  • On the back we get a 13 MP primary snapper while the front camera gets a larger 8 MP unit
  • The handsets includes the usual radios and includes 4G connectivity with Dual SIM support as well
  • It runs KitKat 4.4 with Sense 6.0 on top and is powered by a 2600 mAh battery, similar to the Desire 816, 820 and the 820q

Indeed the interesting part is the price.

While most of you would think that a MediaTek-powered smartphone is going to cost you less, well think again. Thanks to the fact that it sports an octa-core chipset, HTC has priced the Desire 820s at Rs 24,490.

So you have the

HTC Desire 820: Snapdragon 615 (64-bit) : Rs 22,899
HTC Desire 820Q: Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (64-bit) : Rs 19,792 and
HTC Desire 820s: Mediatek : Rs 24,490

Which one would you choose? Sound off in the comments below.
