Samsung Pitches For BlackBerry Purchase; BB Claims It Did Not Happen
While both companies are going through a rough patch, Samsung is up to something here.
Samsung is indeed up to something sneaky here. Reuters recently reported that the company is in talks to buy out BlackBerry. The source claims that its insiders tell them that Samsung execs actually met up with BlackBerry to discuss options of a proper bid and that the Korean company reportedly offered BlackBerry a ton of money.
That money would be in the range of 7.5 billion USD, which is pretty high for the Canadian smartphone maker considering its low market value these days. Of course crafty Samsung is not interested in BlackBerry’s smartphones, but the company’s patent portfolio that is worth a lot more in the industry.
Will BlackBerry give in? Well, BlackBerry issued a statement claiming that nothing actually happened:
“has not engaged in discussions with Samsung with respect to any possible offer to purchase BlackBerry.”
Well talks like these usually happen in private and ever since the news surfaced online, BlackBerry’s stocks actually rose by a hefty margin.
Indeed everyone wants BlackBerry to be bought over, The BlackBerry Passport was clearly an example about how one should not build a smartphone. This was not because of its construction, but just the design and the bulk that came with it. The Classic on the other hand is a better buy but not so premium.
So is BlackBerry just like Sony looking for buyers? Well, we will know pretty soon.
