Motorola Advises Smartphone Owners To Gear Up For Update Release
Soak tests are apparently already in progress.
Motorola was one of the first companies to announce that it would deliver its Android Lollipop 5.0 update for all 2013 and 2014 devices after Google announced the same at Google I/O.
It was a pretty long wait until the (2nd generation) Moto X was announced in September and was the first device in the Motorola line-up to receive Android 5.0 in November. Post that it was the first generation of the Moto G that received Android 5.0; after which there was an extremely long dry spell.
Today a Motorola software engineer, Luciano Carvalho updated his Google+ status explaining the process of updates and why there has been a delay.
The engineer stated in his lengthy post, that Motorola is working very hard to deliver the 5.0 software updates to the 2013 and 2014 range of devices. He also jotted down that Motorola is already in the process of rolling out soak tests for its device firmware and that some may have received the update notification for it already.
Carvalho also stressed on the fact that Google only provides the source to manufacturers. After that begins a long process from getting the code to work with the various, old and new components that comprise of the smartphones in Motorola’s device portfolio. This is why delivering the updates on time is a tedious task.
While the software that Motorola will roll out eventually wont be bug free, the company is working hard to create an almost perfect firmware thanks to the number of soak tests that firm is conducting.
Lastly, the engineer advises smartphone owners to keep the Motorola Updates Services app updated to the latest version as it will be the one that will deliver the good news when the updates begin to roll out. Something, that is expected to happen pretty soon.
