ZTE Announces Star 2 Powered By A Snapdragon 801 Processor
While the smartphone looks like a premium product, it is the system-level voice and speech recognition solution that is the USP here.
ZTE has announced its successor to the Star 1 smartphone, the Star 2. The smartphone comes with a premium finish, is built of premium materials and includes a speedy Snapdragon 801 inside as well. Construction aside, it is the system-level voice and speech recognition solution that is the focus here.
Going by the looks alone, the Star 2 reminds us of the Sony Ericsson Satio (going way back in 2009) but a lot slimmer. The smartphone sports a premium construction using aircraft-grade aluminium along with gorilla glass 3 on the back; all in a package that measures just 6.9 mm thick.
On the software side of things, we get the system-level voice and speech recognition solution that capable of recognizing voice commands and responding to the same in just 1.2 seconds. More importantly, you can unlock the device with own unique voice tone, make phone calls, open third-party apps, play music, take photos and much more without a network connection which is pretty neat.
As for the insides of the smartphone:
- We get a 5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixel) OGS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3
- Inside there is a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with 2 GB of RAM
- 16 GB of internal memory is available and the same can be expanded further with the help of a micro SD card slot
- There is a 13 MP camera on the back with a dual LED flash set up and 5 MP unit up front that comes with an f/2.2 aperture
- We get 4G LTE/ 3G bands for connectivity along with the usual Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0
- The handset runs on the proprietary MiFavor 3.0 UI with Android KitKat 4.4 as the base and is all powered by a 2300 mAh battery to keep things slim and light
As for the pricing, the ZTE Star 2 is currently announced only for the Chinese market for a price tag of 2499 Chinese Yuan (approx. 26,000 INR). As of now ZTE has not mentioned any news about the handset’s global roll-out.
