PMO Now On YouTube

After Twitter, govt turns to video-based interactions.

After venturing into social media platforms such as Twitter, Manmohan Singh's office has now launched its own channel on YouTube, reports IANS. Interestingly, the account was created on 31 January, but the first video was put up only on 11 March, which is about the government's flagship Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) programme. As of now, there are just three videos online, with the latest being the release of the HUNGaMA Report (No, it's not a fun thing; HUNGaMA refers to Hunger and Malnutrition). Looks like the former media person Pankaj Pachauri has truly created a digital storm at the PMO after joining as communications adviser earlier this year.

Although, the PMO has put up around 163 tweets, at the last count and none of them has been able to invoke any sort of real dialogue or conversation with its followers. Thankfully you can comment on the posted videos, although this feature may be turned off if too many brickbats come the government's way. While several people want to use these platforms to air out their grievances, they need to keep in mind that this is more like a PR exercise, and the PM may or may not be personally using these accounts at all.
