Microsoft Outs Its Skype Translator Preview For Windows 8.1
The service will translate speech in real time, but English and Spanish will be the only two supported languages initially

Microsoft has just kicked off its Skype Translator Preview for devices running on Windows 8.1, which as its name suggests translates speech in real time. English and Spanish will be the only two spoken languages supported by the service at the moment, but can translate instant messages in 45 languages.
The company showed off its Skype Translator service back in May, and since it seems to have made huge progress on eliminating the kinks. Microsoft uses machine leaning to almost flawlessly translate speech from one language to another in real time, with the results being similar to what we've seen in Sci-Fi movies.
The service is still only a preview, so don't expect it to function flawlessly, but using it should give you a pretty good idea of what the future of Skype holds. While 'breaking language and geographical barriers' is a commonly used sticker term for any communication service, Microsoft's work will actually deliver on that promise.
