Xiaomi Claims 75,000 Redmi Notes Were Sold In Just 8 Seconds

If the numbers hold up, we could see Xiaomi creeping up the charts of India's largest smartphone vendors

Xiaomi claims it enjoyed yet another successful flash sale for its Redmi Note smartphone, going through a lot of 75,000 devices in a mere 8 seconds flat. Hugo Barra took to popular micro-blogging site Twitter to announce the achievement, outing a tweet that read “Mi India: Redmi Note out of stock in 8 secs today!”

The company also announced that the third flash sale for the Redmi Note will be held on December 16, with registrations being open up till midnight of December 15. So far the company claims to have sold 1.25 lakh Redmi Notes as part of two flash sales hosted on by e-commerce partner Flipkart.

The Redmi Note, priced at Rs 8,999 is on-route to becoming Xiaomi's most popular device in the country if the company can service the demand. It's large screen, mid-range guts and entry-level price make it an attractive option for buyers in India, where many use their smartphones as their primary computing device.

Moreover, India is on route to becoming Xiaomi's second largest global market, and the company is ramping up its operations to make sure that happens. The incoming smartphone shipments have swelled in size, while the frequency of hosting flash sales too has gone up.

With the upcoming launch of the Mi4 and MiPad tablet, Xiaomi will look to capitalize on the Indian market even more, taking on giants Samsung and Apple in the process.
