Xiaomi Claims 50,000 Redmi Notes Were Sold In 6 Seconds Flat
While that's a great indicator of the device's popularity, how soon before consumers get tired of this?
Xiaomi held the first flash sale for its Redmi Note phablet in India on December 2, and in keeping with tradition a lot of 50,000 units was snatched up in a mere 6 seconds. Hugo Barra, global VP of Xiaomi, took to Twitter to announce the achievement, and said, “Redmi Note out of stock in 6 secs today!”
The Redmi Note is sold via Xiaomi's official online partner Flipkart in India, which hosted the flash sale on its website. The company's story in the country has been littered with instances of devices selling out in mere seconds, which while that's great for publicity is also hurting consumer sentiments.
The popularity of the device stems from the company's core offering of high-specs at low-costs. The Redmi Note too ticks the boxes for being a great mid-range phone, but comes in at a strictly entry-level cost. While only the 3G variant of the device will be sold via Flipkart, the 4G variant too sits in the sub-Rs 10,000 segment.
Despite offering great value for money, consumers are growing impatient with Xiaomi's flash sales, which only end up making purchasing any of its devices harder. The company is plagued with limited stocks, and while it's planning to even setup a manufacturing unit in India, the remedial measures may come too late.
