Apple Solves The Whole Free Apps Issue On Its App Store
You will now see a “Get” button instead.
Apple similar to the other biggies n the industry has finally given in to the whole Free apps issue. The Cupertino tech giant has finally changed the “Free” button for all those free apps in its App Store to “Get”.
The issue arose when users and some regulators in the European Union criticised the fact that many of those apps marked as “Free” had in app purchases. They also claimed that it was misleading users in the app store who often clicked on the “free” button and thanks to some developers got flooded with requests for in app purchases within the apps.
While in app purchases is a big problem all by itself. It is indeed developers who benefit from the system the most, along with a couple of users. Gone are the days when you would hit the buy button and expect a game that is free from in app purchases. This is why Apple decided to change the button to a “Get” instead, which sounds a lot more appropriate.
It was not too long ago when Apple began putting up the the Free button along with a small “In app purchases” tag below them in the App Store. So it is indeed a growing problem, but don’t expect that tag to go anywhere as it still makes a lot of sense for users who are new to the App Store. Still then the “In app purchases” tag is not as consistent as one would like it to be, since there are many apps in there that we found were listed as “Get” without the tag, but make a ton of money through in app purchases.
