WhatsApp Listens To Its Users; Lets You Disable Read Receipts
Group chats however have the feature hard coded onto it.
WhatsApp is in the process of rolling out a new update that will finally let you disable that nagging Read-receipts feature, that keeps blowing your cover all the time. The company is rolling out an update that will now allow users to choose whether others can check when they read a message, at the cost of not being able to check others read receipts.
The feature although pretty neat, did cause widespread panic in WhatsApp’s messaging community that has almost turned into a social network these days. While some found Read receipts pretty handy to keep track of others, there were indeed many who did not like the idea of keeping their guard down and letting others know that they have ignored their friend’s messages.
The blue ticks can now be turned off, provided you have installed the new update tagged as version 2.11.444. While we could not download the update via the Play Store, it was pretty obvious that we would find one on WhatsApp’s website under the Android section.
While many of you may be happy with the idea (yes, you can now install the app once again), you must take note that Read receipts for group chats will not be turned off even though you have disabled the feature for one on one chats.
You can head here to download the .apk file and install it manually for your Android device. Disabling the feature is easy, you simply head to settings within the app, then tap on Account, then Privacy and you will see the Read receipts check box down below.
