The 1st Minute Of Your Google Hangouts Call Is Now Free
Yes, Google has actually allowed a free minute on one call, post which users will be charged.
Google suddenly decided to be generous and is now giving away one free minute on a single voice call on Hangouts. The service that took off recently is now available in a number of countries out of which 25 have been hand-picked to avail of the free offer.
The service encompasses a number of countries and charges do apply when you make a call to a land line or a mobile phone with no Google Hangouts (else you would be doing the same on Viber). The free calling applies only to the first minute of any one call. So if you are connecting to a number of users at a single time you better keep track of those minutes.
Oh yes, and there is one catch. Google will decide whom to deliver those free 1st minutes too; so if you thought of calling you friends in 60 second intervals, think again cos Big G is watching.
The names of the countries that qualify for the free minute include:
- Australia
- Belgium
- Brazil
- Canada: Most calls will be free. A few destinations will cost USD 1 cent per minute after the first minute.
- China
- Dominican Republic
- France
- Germany
- India
- Indonesia
- Ireland
- Italy
- Japan
- Mexico
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Peru
- Poland
- Russia
- South Korea
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
- United States: Most calls will be free. A few destinations will cost USD 1 cent per minute after the first minute.
The offer only lasts till the end of 2014, and you should see a “first minute free” message showing up on your screen. If you don’t, that clearly indicates that you are being charged from the very first minute.
