Google Testing Out Material Design-Themed Mobile Search For Chrome
Looks impressive, works even better.
Like all things Google these days, every app and service in Google’s eco-system will eventually get converted into a showcase of Material Design. Whether its a smartphone, tablet or a web app that runs on your browser, Google will eventually convert those services to look and feel similar so that the user can seamlessly transition from device to device. Well, ever since the announcement of Android L (now Lollipop), it seems that the company has been struggling (don’t know why) to dish out refreshed apps with Material Design. Today we are finally getting our first glimpse of the Material Design UX on the web with Google Search, via the Chrome for Android Web browser.
The activations are taking place gradually and you may not see the changes shown below instantly. The change first began appearing on a couple of Nexus 5 devices only with many more devices from other manufacturers joining in the game.
As for the new UI, it definitely looks a lot more colourful and runs pretty smoothly for something that works within your mobile phone’s web browser. The transitions are buttery smooth especially when you call up images that first appear as a grid of coloured tiles and then transitions into images related to your search.
Overall the new update simply adds a lot more colour and life to a brilliant search engine and makes it more fun to use. We just wish that Google simply rolled out Material Design for all its app and services simultaneously since everything kind of looks a bit messy for now; with one service sporting the new design theme while the other lacks it completely.
