Microsoft Devices Launches Its 'Nokia 130' Feature Phone At Rs 1,649
Just when we though the Nokia brand name was on its way out, Microsoft drops this on us
Microsoft has confirmed that it will soon kill-off the Nokia brand name, which is why it's odd that the company has outed a new feature phone dubbed the 'Nokia 130'. The device features a 1.8-inch colour display, boasts of support for dual-SIM cards and is priced at Rs 1,649 in the Indian market.
"The Nokia 130 is a perfect device for consumers who are looking for their first mobile phone, or for those looking for a rock-solid backup phone to use alongside their smartphone," said Raghuvesh Sarup, director of marketing at Nokia India, a unit of Microsoft devices.
Other features of the entry-level mobile device include an in-built video and music player, with users having the ability to access content saved on a micro-SD card of up to 32GB. Powering the Nokia 130 is a 1020mAh battery that rated for 36 hours of standby time and a solid 13 hours of talktime on 2G networks.
A flashlight, FM radio, charging through USB port and Bluetooth make up the rest of the spec sheet of the Nokia 130, which is in-line with other feature phones in the price point. Feature phones still make up majority of the mobile devices sold in India, and Microsoft is keeping the ultra low-cost device line alive to tap into that market.
While it's clear that all future Windows powered Microsoft smartphones will carry the name 'Microsoft Lumia', the company's branding strategy for feature phones isn't clear yet. There are positives of retaining the Nokia brand in India, especially in the low-end device market, because over the year the Finnish company has become sort of a household name.
