Google Will Adopt The Play Store Model To Sell Project Ara Modules
Even the experience will be similar, with each listing having reviews and recommendations
Google's modular smartphone project (a.k.a Project Ara) is one of the most promising and potentially revolutionary technologies being developed at Mountain View. There are still huge gaps in our understanding of how a modular phone would work, but Google has just given us a tidbit of how they may be sold.
In an interview at Purdue University, Google's Paul Eremenko said that the company will follow the model of the Play Store to sell modular smartphone hardware. The shopping experience will be similar, in terms of being able to view reviews and recommendations for specific modules before purchasing them.
Further, you'll be able to buy and sell hardware in a way similar to how we currently buy apps, books, movies, music, etc from the Play Store. Eremenko didn't reveal any further details about Project Ara itself, or at what stage of development the project has reached, but we now know it should be quite easy to buy into what's touted to be the future of smartphone technology.
