Close To One Million Sign Up To Test Windows 10: Microsoft
We aren't the only one's excited by Microsoft's upcoming operating system
Dying to take the preview of Microsoft's latest OS, Windows 10, for a spin? You're not the only one, claims Microsoft, as its Windows Insider Program hit 1 million registrants over the weekend. The news comes two weeks after Microsoft released its Windows 10 Technical Preview, suggesting that a lot of people are using the new software.
While signing up for the Windows Insider Program doesn't necessarily mean installing the preview, Microsoft claims a lot of people are trying out its next-gen build as it has received over 200,000 pieces of user feedback. Further, the feedback is apparently from users who've used the software extensively, and those just dipping their toes into it.
Microsoft did not reveal the number of downloads, but did say that only 36% of Windows 10 Technical Preview installations were in Virtual Machines, translating to users “trying it out” for a few minutes. The remaining 64% of the installations were on actual PCs, saying that a lot of users are actually extensively using the preview.
App usage stats back up this claim, as Microsoft saw 68% of Windows 10 Technical Preview users using more than 7 apps a day. Out of this, 25% of the devices running the new software ran more than 26 apps a day, while 5% ran a whopping 68 apps per day.
The company says it's currently working on a way to categorize the incoming requests and feedback from early adopters of its Windows 10 Technical Preview, and promises to continually refine the OS before its launch. In any case, it's clear that a lot of people are quite excited about Windows' transition away from being incredibly touch focused.
