Google's Mobile Search App Will Now Remind You To Pay Your Bills

We're still waiting for the day when Google just pays for our bills

 

Google's search app has been helping us with a lot of things, and its latest feature is probably its most useful ever. The app can now keep track of when your bills are due, helping you pay them on time and keep your credit in check.

"When you can't remember whether you've paid your bills — or you simply can't remember how much money you need to pay — you can now just ask Google," said the company in a statement, according to PCMag.com.

The feature is part of Google's digital assistant Google Now, and will respond to the phrases 'Show me my bills' or 'My bills due this week'. It only works if you have the payment due date and amount in your Gmail account, and will show you a summary of upcoming and past bills.

Privacy freaks are sure to raise an alarm over the new feature, but it is available only to users of the Google Search app that have enabled Google Now. Further, users can control what information Google Now has access to, but denying Google access to look for information in your Gmail account will disable the feature.

Google has been continually working on making its services more useful for users, helping it gain an edge over rivaling apps Siri and Cortana. Moreover, granting Google Now access to your private information is hardly any more risky than not doing so. If you've been watching the news, you should already know that governments don't need backdoors to get your information.
