Gets the job done, but that’s about it.
When we heard that Windows Phone got a delivery app from McDonald’s, we were pretty excited to try it out. But our excitement was indeed short lived after we had one look at it in the Windows Phone app store itself. The app looks like a cheap port and gives you the feeling that McDonald’s may be shutting down operations in India soon.
Still then we decided to install and give it a shot. Aside from the fact that the McDelivery app looks like cheap port, there are indeed mobile websites that look better. While the registration was pretty easy, its the navigation that is confusing and you can get lost in there.
Then there is the ugly settings button that is handy since it shows up in every menu, but is clearly not required. The main header looks more like an Ad Banner and there is a lot of wasted space everywhere (the app has scaling issues) meaning that you have a lot of scrolling to do. Clicking on the nutrition information opens up a page in a browser that actually forces you to download a document.
Clearly Mcdonald’s should have stuck to their mobile webpage instead, where the design is a lot better. The app is functional but clearly suffers from a horrid UX. Domino’s has a beautiful pizza ordering app that will literally allow you to customise your pizza on your smartphone. We guess McDonald’s could take a page from their book of ideas when they plan to update their app.
So for now the McDelivery app for Windows Phone is clearly an app that you would use, just in case you are in the mood to fidget with your smartphone. Otherwise you are better off using your mobile to dial the McDonald’s hotline instead.
