Xiaomi Could Launch Its Redmi Note In India Today
Given that the Mi3 will soon go on sale in India for the last time, it makes sense to fill the gap with another device
Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi could launch yet another device in India on October 8, following a teaser from the company on popular social network Facebook. It is expected that the company will launch the Redmi Note phablet, following an earlier statement by Hugo Barra stating the same would happen before Diwali.
The post doesn't reveal any details apart from the date (8 OCT 2014) and shows a blurred diya in the background. Xiaomi Vice President Hugo Barra had earlier stated that the Redmi Note will be launched in India before Diwali at a price of Rs 9,999.
The Redmi Note features a 5.5-inch 720p display, and is powered by a 1.7-GHz octa-core MediaTek processor coupled to 2GB of RAM. Internal memory stands at 8GB, while users will have the option of expanding that via a microSD card slot. A 13MP primary & 5MP secondary camera and a large 3,100mAh battery make up the rest of the spec sheet.
It is unlikely that the company will launch its new flagship Mi4 smartphone and its Mi Pad tablet in India, as those two devices are slated for launch around December. The Mi3 and the Redmi 1S have so far been the only two smartphones the company has brought on sale in India, and the Redmi Note should be the third.
Given that the Mi3 could go up for sale one last time on Flipkart close to Diwali, it makes sense for the company to introduce another device to maintain a presence in the market. While the Redmi Note isn't a flagship device like the Mi3, as usual it does offer great value for money which should make it a hit in the Indian market.
While Xiaomi isn't yet ready to ditch its 'flash sale' method of getting devices to customers, online retail partner Flipkart has been taking a lot of flack from disgruntled buyers. While selling out a lot of few thousand devices in mere seconds does prove it's popularity, there's been a negative impact due to the thousands of people that lose out on buying the device.
