Google+ For Android Gets An Update; Shows Off Material Design

While the previous update did add a hint of Material Design to the app, this one makes things pretty clear.

With the Android L launch just around the corner, it is indeed high time that Google began updating its long list of apps that brings its services to Android devices. While the search giant has just delivered the refreshed Newsstand app along with an updated Hangouts app, there is not one single app by Google out there that delivers a full-fledged Material Design experience (Wally, a wallpaper app is a better example of the same). Well, Google has finally delivered another update for its Google+ app for Android and while this is again not a complete over haul, it comes pretty close.

After updating the software you will first notice the new app icon in your app drawer. It is smaller but comes with those light distinct shadows that are also available on the recently updated Newsstand app. The same goes for Photo app icon.

The colours inside the app have gotten a bit bolder, but gets faded to keep in line with those material design guidelines. The colourful icons from both the Google+ app and the accompanying Photo app have now made way for simpler and subtle grey ones. The toolbar’s icons have also gotten smaller and more precise.

Material Design aside, you can now cast your photos, videos and links directly to your TV. Auto Awesome movies also get a bit of control in terms of editing options but are available for selected devices only.

All-in-all the new update gives the UX a Material Design touch but adds nothing new to improve the complex UI.
