Google Delivers A Fresh New Update For Newsstand
Adds Material Design to give the app an Android L look.
Google has been focussing a lot on its Newstand service. While the app has grown from a news aggregator to a full-fledged news reader with in-app subscriptions, it still lacked that Google touch that made the app different. Well, now a year after its launch, it seems that Google has finally delivered a fresh new update that adds that much-needed zest; and it comes just in time for its first birthday.
The new app is not just a cosmetic, Material Design update, but adds a ton of UX features that actually make it better for smartphones and tablets. It delivers a new and better reading experience that is smarter on smartphones than anywhere else.
Reading magazines on your smartphone (even with those gigantic 5.5 inch screens) was always tough. Google has now made things a lot easier, by giving users the ability to toggle through and easily read content with big images right on their smartphones. The images are now bigger with contextual headers and buttery smooth transitions with horizontal swiping between topics, and vertical swipes to dive deeper into topics.
There are now deeper topic cards in the Explore section so it is now easier to subscribe from the 2000 plus free and paid full length subscriptions.
The update is rolling out gradually so it may take some time for the update to reach your device. Google had recently rolled out an update that brought paid subscriptions for users in India. The new update has more to do with changes in the app’s UX and we are indeed eagerly waiting for Google to update all its apps to the Material Design theme that it announced along with Android L at Google I/O.
