Samsung SM-A500 Passes Through TENAA; Confirms Mid-Range Specs
Seems to be a cheaper version of the GALAXY Alpha for now.
Samsung is indeed preparing a cheaper version of the GALAXY Alpha. Being the first one be announced (even though it was a soft launch) the GALAXY Alpha is indeed the smartphone that introduced metal to Samsung’s Android range. News has now surfaced that the SM-A500 has now passed through TENAA, the Chinese equivalent of the FCC and we finally have some photos of this much-rumoured device.
The images show a handset that looks pretty much similar to the GALAXY Alpha. There is the metal frame from the Alpha coupled with all the necessary sensors indicating that this is a mid-range device and not a budget one.
The specs of the SM-A500 that have now gotten confirmed are similar to what had leaked out earlier. Apart from the 8 MP primary camera that was reported earlier there is:
- A 5 inch Super AMOLED touch screen display sporting a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels
- 1.2 GHz quad-core chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC with 2 GB of RAM
- There’s 16 GB of internal memory available along with micro SD memory card expansion
- A 13 MP camera up front, with a 5 MP front-facer
- All powered by a 2330 mAh non-removable battery complete with Samsung’s Ultra Power Saving mode
Samsung indeed seems to have gone all out with the specs of this smartphone. Apart from the processor (which is a mid-range one) and the missing heart rate sensor, there is indeed no other visible distinction between this and the Alpha. Let’s just hope that the pricing is right.
