Microsoft Confirms It Will Hold A Windows Event On September 30
While the company could unveil the technical preview of Windows 9, don't expect it to be consumer focused
Microsoft has confirmed that it will host a Windows themed event on September 30 in San Francisco, where it is expected to release the technical preview of Windows 9. The news confirms several rumors suggesting the same, which bolsters claims of the return of the Start Menu and the toning down of the touch intensive UI.
Several leaks have sprung up in the run up to the event, including ones that suggest the merging of Windows Phone and Windows RT. According to TechCrunch however, Microsoft isn't expected to show off the updated version of Windows RT, which may include Windows Phone components, until early 2015.
The company by no means is launching Windows 9 at the upcoming event, but it should give us a good picture of the what the next version of the desktop OS will look like. Early rumors suggesting that the new version will be a shape shifting OS made for phones, tablets and desktops don't seem to hold good.
So far we've only seen what Windows 9 will look like on PCs, but not for touch intensive devices, suggesting that the latter's release isn't nearing by any means. Moreover, considering that the upcoming event will see the technical preview of Windows 9, don't expect it to be too consumer focused.

The formal launch of Windows 9 will happen sometime in 2015, and the company will hope to leave behind the bad image its overtly touch focused Windows 8.x brought it. It is also expected that the company will provide great incentives to users to upgrade from older versions of the software to Windows 9, kick starting adoption of the latest software.
