Samsung GALAXY S5 Mini Goes On Sale For Rs 26,499
Seems like a case of too little too late indeed.
Samsung has finally put up the GALAXY S5 Mini on sale at Flipkart for an asking price of Rs 26,499 after teasing us about it for long. The handset saw a soft launch and was indeed a pointless venture from the beginning as the GALAXY S5 itself was not a sales success. Samsung may have been gunning for Sony’s Xperia ‘Compact’ title, but seems to gone haywire with the pricing, that will result in some lost opportunities.
As far the hardware specs go, the device sports :
- A 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 pixel Super AMOLED touch screen
- Is powered by a snappy 1.4 GHz quad-core processor of unknown make with 1.5 GB of RAM
- Memory options are limited to 16 GB ROM with a memory expansion slot capable of accepting cards of up to 64 GB
- We get an 8MP camera on the back with a 2.1 MP unit up front
- Also included are the usual radios along with the dual SIM functionality and the fingerprint reader along with the heart rate monitor from the GALAXY S5
- The handset is powered by a 2100 mAh battery unit and comes loaded with Android KitKat version 4.4 running TouchWiz on top
- IP 67 certified dust and water resistance is clearly the only feature that makes the phone worth buying
Indeed Samsung thought that it could push the price tag up with the inclusion of the heart rate monitor and the fingerprint reader. It could have asked for the same price a few months ago, as there are plenty of offerings today from the budget range that can stand up to the smartphone like the Moto G (2nd Gen) and the Xiaomi Redmi 1s that deliver a lot more for a lot less. Indeed Samsung’s attempt at building a waterproof Compact like the recently announced Sony Xperia Z3 Compact seems to have gotten washed away with its unrealistic pricing.
