Lumia Denim Update For Nokia Devices Is Coming In Q4 2014

Indeed there is a lot in store, but it all depends on which handset you own.

 

While those on the Preview for Developers are already enjoying the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 firmware, Microsoft today at the IFA Berlin just announced the new Lumia software update for the same. The update called Lumia Denim will bring a host of new features to Lumia devices. But that would completely depend upon how recent your Nokia Lumia device really is as not everyone will be able to reap the Lumia benefits.

The Nokia Lumia Denim update will indeed add to number of standard native features that already come with the Microsoft’s version of the firmware. This would include:

  • Cortana in Alpha form for India
  • Live Folders that can club your Live Tiles together
  • Apps Corner
  • SMS merge and forwarding
  • Snooze Times
  • Consumer VPN
  • Internet Explorer improvements

What Microsoft (Nokia) will be adding for Nokia Lumia users will be as follows:

  • Nokia Camera will now get branded to Lumia Camera along with performance improvements
  • Faster shot-to-shot times
  • Moment Capture that will turn on 4K 24 FPS recording from which you can choose high-quality frames of your choice
  • Rich Capture, that will allow you to first shoot and then adjust you camera settings later
  • Improved images processing algorithms
  • “Hey Cortana” voice activation for Cortana and an improved Glance Screen with Bing Weather, Health integration

As always there is catch and for this time’s Lumia update. It will only be the recently launched high end Lumia devices like the Lumia 1520 (Lumia 930 has not launched in India) that will see the more advanced camera features like Lumia Camera. The recently announced Nokia Lumia 830 and 730 smartphones will come with the Denim update out of the box, while the rest of Lumia owners will start getting it somewhere in fourth quarter of this year.
