Apple To Begin Replacing Faulty iPhone 5 Batteries In India
The company will carry out the battery replacement for eligible handsets free of cost
Apple recently announced that it would replace faulty iPhone 5 batteries for free, and the process which has already begun in the US and China is set to roll out in India on August 29. Users will be able to visit any Apple Store or authorized service center to have their device's battery replaced.
The company's official statement said “a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently.” It added that the affected iPhone 5 units were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range.
Apple has an online serial number checker to help iPhone owners figure out if their phone suffers from the battery problem. If yes, the company will replace the faulty iPhone 5 battery for free, and users who've already paid to get their batteries replaced (and are eligible for the current replacement) will be entitled to a refund.
The support site provides below mentioned service options to have your battery replaced. Your iPhone will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program and in working order.
Visiting an Apple authorized service provider
Making an appointment at an Apple Retail Store
Contacting Apple Technical Support by phone
Apple is asking users to back up their data to iTunes or iCloud and erase it from the device itself before replacing the battery.
