Zomato Buys Two Central And East European Apps
The Indian origin company acquired them for combined $3.5 million
Off late there have been too much news about the American Companies buying out startups. But the Indian-origin app Zomato has been fast spreading its tentacles across the world and making some major acquisitions.
A few weeks after it landed in New Zealand, the restaurant search and discovery service has added Czech Republic’s Lunchtime.cz and Slovakia’s Obedovat.sk — the leading restaurant guides in their respective countries, to its menu at a price of combined $3.25 million.
In what looks like a deliberate strategy, the company is looking to grow its stakes in some of the emerging markets and co-founder Pankaj Chaddah’s revelations that they were looking to extend services in Poland, Ireland, Malaysia, Vietnam, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait and Canada, only substantiates this.
It looks like a ploy to avoid the market of US as much as possible because there will be a lot of competition once it enters US. In an interview with TechCrunch, Chaddah revealed that they were looking to get into Canada in the next two months, while they would think about US only in second half of 2015.
While the advances made by Zomato in the recent times has been staggering, the app has managed to stay away from being obsolete by reviewing the data once in every three months. Surprisingly it is done manually and the company takes great pride in it.
There is a plenty to learn for the start-ups from Zomato, who believe in not resting on their laurels and consistently continue to reinvent themselves.
