Google Announces Photo Sphere For iOS; iPhone 4 Gets Left Out
Clearly Google wants more people in and more photo spheres added to Google Maps.
If you are reading this article, you are probably an iOS user, because the Android herd has been playing around with Google’s Photo Sphere for about a year now (since April for all droids). The app that was earlier limited to Google’s Nexus range, got better acceptance when it was made available via the recently launched Google Camera app for all supported Android devices. Finally, the Android exclusive feature has now made its way to iOS in the form of a beautiful app.
iPhone 4 users will feel left out though, due to hardware limitations. As for the app, it’s pretty straightforward and and will let you create, check out, publish and share your photo spheres. Moreover, you can even contribute to Google Maps (which Google hopes you will do) by hitting the publish button. The app design-wise is pretty much no nonsense and does show hints of Google’s material design which also shows up on the Views website that Google has put up to store/publish all those photo spheres. You can share them wherever you want from there. Of course all of this happens in-app as well.
Indeed there was not much left before Hangouts reached iOS. Now with the Photo Sphere app, it kind of completes the circle for Android users who have made the switch to iOS. Android’s exclusivity is clearly at stake as Google keeps pushing out apps for Apple’s ecosystem.
