Samsung GALAXY Alpha Announced, May Carry A Rs 42,000 Price Tag
Samsung’s first premium smartphone saw a soft launch just as expected.
Samsung certainly does not want anything, not even its latest creation, the GALAXY Alpha to steal the Note 4’s limelight in September. The end result? A soft launch for what may be Samsung’s best product this year. Yes, Samsung has finally announced the long-rumoured GALAXY Alpha smartphone and yes, it does sport a metal frame.
As with Samsung though everything is not always like it seems from the outside. The metal frame is functional, but exists simply to impress Samsung’s investors because the internals of the handset are made of plastic. Seems like metal and a removable battery unit don’t mix well when it comes to great design. Still then Samsung could have used a metal back panel instead of going with the ‘Modern Glam’ dimpled back that we all hate so much.
As for the specifications, they are exactly as foretold by the leakers:
- You get a 4.7 inch 1280 x 720 pixel Super AMOLED display
- With an octa-core Exynos 5 (4 x Cortex A15 @1.8 GHz + 4 x Cortex A7 @ 1.3 GHz) powering it
- 32 GB of internal memory comes standard along with 2 GB of RAM and no expandable memory
- 12 MP camera sensor with an LED flash and 2.1 MP sensor on the front for selfies
- As for the radios, you get treated to LTE Category 6 connectivity along with the dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.0
- The handset is powered by a 1860mAh battery which although puny may have been put there to make the phone lighter at just 115 grams
- And the handset will be powered by Android KitKat 4.4.4 with Samsung TouchWiz layer leading the way
The handset when available will come in black, white, gold, silver and blue. As of now the official website has not listed any pricing, but a site famous for leaks has let out some news saying that the handset will retail for RUB 25,000 / 690 USD / 42,267 INR.
