Samsung’s GALAXY Alpha Sees A Soft Launch In Moscow

Indeed Samsung's PR seems to have not got the memo.

Samsung’s much-rumoured GALAXY Alpha handset became official when it showed up as a sponsor for a regatta in Moscow. The glamorous event saw posters, flyers and the handset itself being demoed by the attendees at the the event. While the tech world had just got its first glimpse of Samsung’s first metal rimmed Android handset, seems like Samsung had other plans and did not want to prioritise it after all.

The last we heard about the GALAXY Alpha, was when we got the last rumour about its launch speculated for the 13th of August. We took the news with a pinch of salt, since Samsung’s main focus for this year, is clearly the GALAXY Note 4, which after the disappointing GALAXY S5, is the company’s only saving grace. This is why we expected a soft launch for the handset even though it was something that Samsung has churned out for the first time.

Another private event in Brazil also saw leaked information about the Alpha’s specs. The leaked specs fall in line with previous leaks. The specifications point to a:

  • 4.7 inch AMOLED screen with a 1280 x 720 pixels
  • 12 MP rear camera with a 2.1 MP front-facing one
  • An octa-core 1.8 GHz x 4 + 1.3 GHz x 4 chipset coupled with 2 GB of RAM
  • 32 GB of internal memory with micro SD card support
  • A small 1850 battery powering it all, (to probably keep things light weight)
  • And the fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor from the GALAXY S5

Strangely the images of the event seemed to have been pulled down as of now, meaning that Samsung could indeed prefer delivering the news via other media officially by itself soon.
