Google Updates YouTube for Android To Include 1440p Playback

Even with a Quad HD android device, it still does not make any sense.

Android is currently not quite ready for Quad HD displays. If you happen to own a LG G3, you would already know that. Many games currently do not support that resolution (including Real Racing 3), including some apps. The same goes for the Play Store and the apps and games that currently run on these displays, everything is scaled to fit, so it is surprising when Google themselves suddenly update the YouTube app for Android to support the same.

Clearly this is because, people on YouTube simply love 4K video. There are plenty of 4k video uploads thanks to the adoption of 4K video recording on smartphones. 4K adoption continues to grow on YouTube, which contributes to delivering better quality mobile video, which were once considered to be pixelated works of art.

But wait, 4K is not the same as Quad HD. 4K video is 4096 × 3072 pixels while Quad HD displays that top of the line flagships like the LG G3 sport, are just 2560 x 1440 pixels wide. As purists would say, its indeed does not make sense watching one on the other since that would be similar to watching DVD footage on Full HD screen.

Moreover not too many handsets record video at this resolution, they are either Full HD capable or 4K capable, with users recording video at either setting (even 1440p does exist). So it eventually makes no sense that Google has added such a resolution, as what you would be seeing at the new 1440p setting will be anything but that.
