Samsung GALAXY Alpha Poses For Photos In Its Metal Outfit

While the company has yet to make an announcement about this premium looking device, leakers have revealed the handset in some crystal clear photos.

The Samsung GALAXY Alpha has already leaked in the past but definitely not like this. Fresh new photos from a Weibo user show the handset from every angle possible which kind of reminds us of a mix of an iPhone and the GALAXY S2 to be frank.

The squarish design with rounded edges is not something new to Samsung, this was a trend that took off from the first GALAXY handset and somehow lost its way after the GALAXY S3 which introduced the rounder design that the Korean smartphone maker seems to be using for all its handsets. So indeed this one will stand out from the crowd as it sports a metal rim and also comes with a one off square design.

Clearly the purpose of this unusually specd handset is not yet known, but with what happened after the recent meeting, seems like Kim Hyun-joon, Senior VP at Samsung Mobile, simply wants to show off to investors that it can actually build a handset made of metal.

As for the GALAXY Alpha, it will sport a 720p display with a 12 MP camera on the back. Inside, we may get to see an octa-core Exynos 5433 which recently beat the Snapdragon 805 in leaked benchmarks. Sadly, the handset will come with just 32 GB of internal memory which makes the odd handset all the more confused about where it would be placed. Could Samsung have found the sweet spot between a 720p display of the right size (right ppi) and the most powerful processor it has ever made? May be.

As for the metal rim, as of now, it seems to work similar to the iPhone, like an antenna as seen from previously leaked images. Apart from that, it is clearly not a part of the chassis as can be seen from the plastic innards from recent leaks. Still then, we expected something better from a company makes millions selling similar looking smartphone every year.
