The Man Behind The @evleaks Twitter Handle Calls It Quits
Evan Blass says his decision to shut shop is complicated, but like with most things boils down to money.
When it comes to breaking news of phones that haven't been launched yet, few come close to the Evan Blass – the man behind the @evleaks Twitter handle. It's probably great news then for companies such as Samsung, HTC, Motorola and various others to know that @evleaks has shut shop.
Blass has become one of the most celebrated technology journalists on the internet, with his tweets appearing on almost every tech publication on the Internet. Specializing in big scoops, he says the decision to retire is complicated but boiled down to money at the end, in an interview with TheNextWeb.
All good things must come to an end. Thank you for an amazing two years. [RETIREMENT]

“These matters are always somewhat complicated, but like many things, it mostly comes down to money. Trying to monetize a stream of Twitter leaks is not easy,” said Evan Blass in the interview.
Blass who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis says the evleaks website did perform well, but given that the tweets were going on Twitter anyway, people had little or no incentive to visit the site. Also the tech-savvy readers are pretty heavy on ad-block which further added his earnings woes.
He admitted that he didn't see himself ever coming back to the 'serial leaker' trade and plans to start another career. @evleaks has got things wrong numerous times, but Blass' accuracy was astronomically higher than the everyone else in the business.
When asked about how he managed to do what he did so well, Blass replied, “Good sources, good colleagues to bounce ideas off of, and good luck.” We now know that there will never be an @evleaks, but Blass believes the guy with the greatest potential to fill the void he's created in our lives is TK O’Connor, of TK Tech News.
