Google Adds ‘Explore Nearby’ Button To Maps For Android
Sure adds a ton of functionality for just a single button.
Google is officially now rolling out a new section for its Maps app. The new feature will add a new button to your maps app, but indeed offers a plethora of features for something this small in the UI. The ‘explore nearby’ feature always existed, but it indeed did not get the importance it needed. Now that it will connect to Google Now, google decided to give it an overhaul and spruce it up a bit.
Upon clicking the ‘new button’ you reach a new section in the app which keeps in line with Google’s new Material Design theme and offers a card like interface with suggestions of places you can explore. But there is indeed a lot more out here.
The section unlike the bland explore nearby feature of the past, offers the current weather conditions and will show you restaurants and places to explore depending on the time of the day. Pretty nifty if you ask us. The feature is indeed location aware, meaning that this somehow plugs into Google Now and will prompt users when they have reached a previously searched location as well.
Obviously being a part of Google’s ecosystem, the new feature will even deliver directions and timings about how to get to the place along with reviews of those places as well.
There was no beating the Google Maps app previously and the new Explore Nearby feature will make it even better.
