VAIO Laptops Are Back, Sans The Sony Branding (And Funding)

The devices seem to be identical to what Sony had launched a year ago, but that's not a bad thing.

Japanese electronics giant Sony recently exited the personal computing business, by selling it to Japan industrial Partners. The new owners have floated the company named as VAIO, which has now returned to the market as an independent business. Earlier on Tuesday, the company unveiled its first two devices which are almost identical to the erstwhile Sony VAIO products.

In an attempt to cash in on the popularity of the Sony devices which were launched a year ago, are named Pro and Fit models. While that may not exactly be a bad thing, Engadget reports that the company has no plans of selling its devices outside Japan.

VAIO acknowledges the fact that it is now a small PC maker sans the support of the gigantic Sony Corporation. The company says it is now free and things are going to change, but vows to retain the VAIO DNA that made PCs from Sony popular in the past.

The two models will go on sale immediately and the company hopes that it will recreate the magic that was created by Sony. VAIO as a brand name is still held in high regard by the customers, especially in Japan, which might be the reason for it being released in that country.
