Samsung Quietly Announces GALAXY S5 Mini; Sales Begin Early July

The company has stuck to the tradition of launching a watered-down version of its flagship, but this time brings some goodies with it.

Samsung has finally taken the wraps off its much-rumoured GALAXY S5 Mini smartphone. The handset comes with the usual watered-down specifications that one would expect from a ‘mini’ handset but also adds a few features from its premium sibling giving the mid-range device a touch of class.

On the outside, the GALAXY S5 Mini sports a 4.5 inch 720p AMOLED display along with an 8 MP primary snapper on the back and a 2.1 MP sensor on the front. Inside you will find a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, which we guess is a MediaTek one, coupled with 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory which is expandable thanks to a micro SD card slot. Powering all of the above is a 2,100 mAh battery which is all encased in an IP67 certified dust and water resistant construction. There is the typical dimpled faux-leather look on the back and the handset surprisingly misses out on a cover for the data connector.

But this is not your standard ‘mini’ handset after all, because Samsung also offers an IR blaster, S Health Suite with a heart-rate monitor and the all-important Ultra Power Saving Mode as well.

All-in-all the handset is indeed an improvement over the GALAXY S4 Mini. The Samsung GALAXY S5 Mini will be initially available in Russia in July and will be rolled out globally, shortly after that. Expect the handset to be available in Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold similar to its premium sibling. As of now, there is no word about the pricing of the smartphone, but you can also expect a dual SIM (DUOS) variant to launch soon.
