Facebook's Snapchat Competitor Slingshot Is Now Available Globally

The app is supported by iOS and Android devices only, sorry Windows folk.

Social network giant Facebook launched its Snapchat rival service Slingshot last week, but was exclusive to users in the US region. Now however, the company has opened up the twisted instant-messaging and photo and video sharing service to users across the globe.

Slingshot is currently supported only by iOS and Android devices – sorry Windows Phone users, you're out of luck for now. The service is unique in the way users have to sling back (respond) to incoming messages before they're able to view it.

Facebook hopes this urge to see what someone has sent you will create a viscous cycle of slinging back messages that will keep users infinitely engaged. Does this work? We have no clue, but you can now download the app for yourself and tell us whether it works.

The best bit about Facebook's Slingshot messenger is it doesn't require authentication through the mother 'Big Blue' service. Similar to WhatsApp users just need to authenticate their Slingshot accounts using their mobile numbers, but within the service one can choose to find friends using the service from their Facebook friend list.

Download Slingshot for iOS here and for Android here.
