People Dressed As Star Wars Characters To Stage Protests Outside Google's I/O

The protesters will attempt to decry Google and impacts of the technology industry as a whole on the city of San Francisco.

 

The Google I/O is all set to kick off in a few hours, and as you'd expect not everyone is happy about that. In an attempt to decry Google and impacts of the technology industry as a whole on the city of San Francisco, protesters will dress up as Star Wars characters outside of the I/O conference.

According to TechCrunch, the protests are being held to “highlight rising income inequality in San Francisco, a city now infamous for its spiraling rents.” Fortunately or unfortunately for Google, it has become the symbol of the rapid change spanning across the city, making it a prime target for protesters.

It will be hardly the first time that the citizens of San Francisco have planned protests against the search giant. Earlier Google's buses that ferry the company's employees to and from work had become a target, not only for the traffic backlogs they created, but also as a sign of resistance towards the 'evil empire' Google has created.

The protest group is also promising to roll out a giant 10-foot by 20-foot banner of Darth Vader with a line reading “Don't be evil” in the South of the Market Area of San Francisco. TechCrunch added that Google was unavailable for comments on the promised protests.
