Google Rolls Out Android 4.4.4 Update; Fixes Major Security Bug
While non-Nexus devices are gasping for a taste of KitKat 4.4.2, Google releases yet another update.
While 4.4.3 is yet to hit Nexus devices in some countries, Google has rolled out of another Android update. The update which bumps the version to 4.4.4 is already on its way to Nexus devices around the planet and will see a major security flaw being fixed.
Android Police reports that the firmware update is supposed to patch the OpenSSL bug that is something similar to the Heartbleed bug, which was addressed in the previously rolled out 4.4.3. Apart from this there appears to be nothing new in the update which is pretty similar to the 4.4.3.
The updates have begun rolling out over-the-air (OTA) for the Nexus 5 and should be reaching the Nexus 4 in the second wave. Users could download the factory images for the same and get it installed, but you need to know the not-so complicated process of flashing your Android device for the same.
We suggest that you simply stick to the OTA update which should arrive shortly, considering that it is a tiny patch after all.
Google had recently released the source for Android 4.4.3 and manufacturers like Motorola became the first to announce an update for it Moto X, G and E handsets earlier this month. This is easy for Motorola since the company uses an almost vanilla version of Android for its handsets. Compare this to Samsung, Sony and HTC who add heavy customizations making it even more difficult for them to churn out timely updates.
