Google Updates Its Email App; Brings It To The Play Store

Before you rush to download it to your non-nexus device, its only available for Nexus and GPe devices for now.

 

Google has finally updated its default Email app, which comes in various Android devices in a variety disguises and made it available on its Play Store. The app comes with a glowing new icon and also includes the new Gmail-like slide-out menus as well. Also included is an easier account setup wizard that will help you get all your accounts up and running in no time.

Currently the app is available only for Google’s Nexus range and Google Play edition devices minus the HTC One M8 and the GALAXY S4. The app clearly is one of the most used apps on Android devices second to the Gmail app which limits you to using only Google’s Gmail service. The handy Email app comes in a number of disguises and is often heavily skinned by manufacturers like Sony, Samsung and HTC to make the experience a lot simpler with added features for their customers.

Still then the app does lack the facility to attach a document from your file manager and will still prompt you to link it to your Google Drive account instead. There are a number of email clients out there in the Play Store with a plethora of options and features that will make this app look out-dated.  But nothing beats the simplicity and practicality of the Email app which comes pre-installed on all Android devices.

Adding the Email app to the Play Store is a move that comes after the search giant recently made the Google Camera app available on the same. It is indeed an attempt to bring more pure Android built apps to a plethora of manufacturer made devices that come with all sorts of customizations. But more importantly such apps allow Google to easily update the native apps without the need for users to upgrade their firmware to the latest version of Android.
