Showing The Middle Finger To Get A Lot Easier, Thanks To The Revised Emoji Set

Now you can say a lot more with just one emoji symbol.

The Unicode Consortium has now announced that it has added 250 new emoji to the current line-up of emoji symbols. The big update which also includes 2,834 new characters will add a new set of pictographic symbols as well bringing much relief to instant messaging buffs who often struggle to say more by typing less.

Mobile phone users will now be able to express a lot more with a lot less, which in all probability may also reduce your data bills for that matter. Also added will be the all-important ‘reversed hand with the middle finger extended’ as per the Emoji Blog which will help you vent out your frustration with just one symbol.

The problem here is that manufacturers add their own twist to these pictographs which indeed takes some time. The unique emoji in Google’s hangouts app is clear proof of that. Moreover the new set of emoji and characters will have to added at the OS level, meaning you will not be seeing 250 new symbols in your keyboard until your manufacturer releases a firmware update for the same.

What is interesting is that developers seem to be all geared up to include emoji prediction into their keyboards. Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 was the first to introduce the same with its Word Flow keyboard which shows emoji symbols in suggestions next to alternate word suggestions. Just recently SwiftKey, the world’s best-selling third-party keyboard app also included the same in their big update.

Clearly, emoji is a big deal and we can’t wait to see the big update hitting most mobile operating systems soon.
