Split-Screen Features Found In iOS 8 Code; Is Apple Going To Pull Off A Samsung?

Even if they do, we are sure it would make a lot more sense than Samsung’s multi-window implementation.

A well-known iOS developer, Steve Stroughton Smith, tweeted about something that he noticed in Apple’s iOS 8 code, that was apparently not talked about at the WWDC 2014. Stroughton states that he has found code that supports a multi-window-like feature that will actually allow users to run two or more apps simultaneously side-by-side.

It looks like Apple is running out of ideas these days. The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2014 was a sign of things to come and apart from ‘Handoff’ everything else seemed to be pretty much extracted from other mobile operating systems.

It is indeed shocking that Apple would actually copy Samsung, considering that the Korean electronics giant is the only other manufacturer out there to get the job done right. Samsung’s multi-window feature is surely helpful when working on a tablet, but on a smartphone the implementation seems pretty much pointless.

Stroughton goes on to say that users will indeed be able to switch between ¼, ½ and even ¾ of the screen size. Apps would obviously change mode and would switch from phone to tablet on the fly. Apple must have indeed put in a lot of thought into the feature and maybe there are indeed some tweaks needed from the developer’s side, which is why the company did not mention the feature at the WWDC.

Considering that the iPad is indeed replacing laptops for consumers and even for some professionals, it makes sense to add a deeper level of multi-tasking apart from just ripping off the card-like UI that WebOS used back in 2009.
